CHV Belmont Stakes Analysis:
Race Rating of *0* with no VALUE and every horse trying 12F for the first time.
Forte ranks on top of chart with multiple G1 wins but coming off 10-week layoff & recovering from a hoof injury. Was shown stumbling in a recent gallop (which is likely nothing) but feel this is a good horse to fade.
National Treasure is lone speed again, set a slow pace in Preakness and came home strong. Many questioning his stamina but pedigree looks solid. Should save ground and will be tough to run down.
Angel of Empire has run 2 strong races (Ark Derby & KY Derby) with a very good turn of foot. Ideal 5 weeks of rest. My pick to win but definitely good enough to hit exacta.
Tapit Trice and Red Route One are similar horses, break slow and finish strongly. Both should not be compromised by the distance. Tapit Trice Derby effort was not that good getting beaten by Hit Show who had unfavorable pace set-up and Derma Sotogake who had a poor start. Red Route One is 15-1 and a much better play underneath in Trifectas.
Hit Show or Tapit Shoes (trained by Cox) will be sitting 2nd early to keep National Treasure honest and set up Angel of Empire's late run. Don't think either are good enough to win. Both could hit the bottom of the Superfecta with perfect trips.
Arcangelo is very lightly raced and this is a major step up in class. He is an underlay at 8-1.
Il Miracolo has no shot but has raced a lot.
2 Cent Opinion: Angel of Empire to Win over National Treasure & Red Route One
